More Korean-made equipment to be used to train aviation personnel from developing countries
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs has invited and trained aviation personnel from developing countries since 2001. Its training courses cover various aviation fields including air
navigation system.
From this year, the Ministry will utilize more equipment manufactured in Korea, aiming at boosting
export of Korean equipment. The VOR (VHF Omni-directional Range), air navigation system that
boasts the highest number of installation in the world, and the DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) will be used to instruct sixteen aviation personnel from sixteen countries including Sri Lanka from May 31st to June 25th this year.
The trainees will learn the principles of equipment, installation and maintenance methods and it is
expected to be an opportunity to promote Korean-made equipment.

Latin America, 1 from the Middle East, 1 from South Pacific)
Korea has applied its state-of-the-art IT to develop air navigation system, and the quality is second to none when compared with systems established by developed countries like the U.S.; yet, small
and medium-sized Korean manufacturers have not been fully promoted around the world and such
fact has been a challenge to increase export.
The upcoming training, however, will be a chance to demonstrate not only excellent performance of Korean equipment, but also high efficiency in maintenance and management of equipments in
Korea.
Meanwhile, the Ministry will hold international conferences on air transport communication and air
navigation system organized by various international organizations such as ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) to create more opportunities to exhibit and promote Korean equipment.
When Korean companies participate in exhibition abroad, the Ministry dispatches public officers in
charge to provide government-level support. Along with its effort to give support to exporters, the Ministry will design supportive measures for air navigation system related industries within this year so that this aviation field can become a new driving force in the future.
