(Incheon Airport Aviation Academy (IAAA) Joins ICAO Trainair PLUS- IAAA received the accolade of a premier training center for global aviation leaders). Incheon Airport Aviation Academy (IAAA) has been certified as the first associate member in the Trainair PLUS program by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on 9 March 2011, according to the Ministry of Land Transport and
Maritime Affairs (Minister Chung, Jong Hwan) and Incheon International Airport Corporation
(CEO Lee, Chae Wook).
The ICAO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, manages policies and international standards concerning air navigation. The organization currently represents 190 member countries. The ICAO newly introduced a training center certification framework called ??Trainair PLUS?? in 2010 to produce highly skilled aviation professionals in order to meet growing demand for talents in the aviation
industry.
The program is part of the ICAO efforts to ensure enough qualified training programs are available
for member countries to nurture aviation professionals by enabling wide use of standardized training courses.
First to be certified as Trainair PLUS members were four training centers including IAAA (Korea),
JAA-TO (Europe), GCAS (UAE) and ASC (Japan). In line with the certification, IAAA plans to hold
??ICAO NGAP & Trainair PLUS Regional conference?? where the minister of the MLTM, the secretary
general of the ICAO and about 100 aviation training experts from home and abroad are scheduled
to participate.
IAAA received an extensive audit for the certification in December last year, where the academy
successfully met membership requirements to become a Trainair PLUS center. The audit was
comprised of 60 criteria including the quality of training courses and training management,
instructor??s qualifications, facilities?? quality and others.
The ICAO Trainair PLUS certification is a significant momentum for Korea, since it is expected to
enable Korea to establish and manage advanced international training courses for global aviation
professionals and thereby attract increased global demands for aviation training. All of these are
expected to contribute to enhancement of Korea??s status as an aviation education powerhouse.
